Pétillant Naturel '24 - Trebbiano (IT)

Some wines ask to be studied, this one just wants to be poured. It starts with Trebbiano grapes grown along Italy's Marche coast, then travels north to Amsterdam, where it's fermented the old way, in the bottle, with no filtering and no shortcuts. That method, methode ancestrale, is what gives this 2024 pet nat its gentle, natural fizz, softer and hazier than any prosecco, and its own kind of charm. Pour it and the color comes first, a cloudy, sunlit yellow that already tells you this isn't a polished, factory bubble. Then the nose opens into citrus, jasmine and orange blossom, delicate and a little floral. On the palate it's dry and saline, with a bright thread of acidity running through ripe stone fruit and that same citrus peel character, finishing crisp and easy. It's the stylish, slightly rebellious cousin of cava or prosecco, made for the first glass of the evening rather than the last.
