TASTING NOTES

This Merlot boasts a deep, ruby-red color that immediately catches the eye. The wine offers a complex blend of aromas, including cedarwood, ripe fruit, plums, black cherries, a hint of cloves, figs, raisins, and subtle oak notes. The rich flavor is characterized by beautiful dark fruit, spices, and soft tannins.

ABOUT THE GRAPE
"I am not drinking any f****** Merlot!" A famous quote from the snobbish protagonist in the wine movie Sideways. Ironically, one of the world's most iconic wines is made from Merlot: Château Petrus in Pomerol. And not only in Pomerol but also in the nearby Bordeaux wine region of Saint-Emilion, great wines with a Grand Cru Classé status feature Merlot as the leading grape. Merlot also holds significant importance in the rest of Bordeaux, where it is often blended with grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon. This grape imparts richness and a soft texture to wines with lovely dark fruit flavors. Merlot is so popular that it can be found all over the world, from China to Switzerland and from New Zealand to Chile. As classic as we (also) can be, we sourced the grape from Saint-Emilion. Art & Vin skillfully cultivated the perfect Merlot for us, and we translated it into this creation, The Man with the Hat.

Saint-Émilion is a renowned wine region in the Bordeaux area of France. The region is distinctive due to its predominant focus on Merlot grapes, which grow on limestone slopes and clayey plateaus. This results in wines that are both elegant and powerful, with notes of ripe red fruit and a soft texture. Saint-Émilion is also known for its strict classification system, which grants Grand Cru Classé status to the most distinguished vineyards and producers. This recognition underscores the exceptional quality and craftsmanship invested in these wines.

The merlot grapes are made using traditional methods by Art&Vin in St. Emilion. After the fermentation the wine was aged in French oak for 8 months.

Grilled steaks, pork tenderloin, spicy sausages, pasta dishes with a red sauce, stews, roasted vegetables like eggplant, bell peppers, and mushrooms, soft cheeses such as camembert and brie, or dark chocolate cake and chocolate mousse.

The ideal serving temperature for this wine is between 16-18°C (60-64°F). At this temperature, the flavors and aromas shine their best, and the fruity and spicy notes come to the forefront.
