Mayor's Choice '21 - Garnacha (ES)

Garnacha is a heavyweight grape, born in Spain though grown almost everywhere now, and for this 2021 vintage we went straight to Priorat, one of the classic, robust regions that can coax truly powerful wines out of the vine. Our partner Roger Grifoll Declara grows the fruit on Priorat's rugged, volcanic soil, using traditional methods that let the grape show its full character. The wine ferments in stainless steel, then spends six months in French oak, coming out full bodied and generous, built more in the style of a new Rioja crianza than a typical Priorat. It drinks beautifully now, but has the structure to keep improving for up to three years after harvest if you have the patience to wait.

Pairs perfectly with the Sunday roast and a table full of people you love. It also loves chocolate, a creamy cheese platter, and pretty much everything off the charcoal grill, plus eggplant parmigiana and bell peppers with egg.
