Priorat is somewhat of a mecca of the wineworld. Thanks to its volcanic history, the Priorat landscape is rough with rocky ground, which offers many nutritions for growing grape vines, but is - well - a pain in the butt when it comes to harvesting grapes. That’s why Prioratians grow terrace shaped vineyards, you know, like tea in Indonesia. Our favourite Prioratian is Roger Grifoll Declara, our partner farmer who grows the garnacha grapes in our Mayor’s Choice. He’s had experience in wineries all over the world and as if that didn’t make him the perfect partner already: he’s a dog person as well.

Garnacha - or like the French calls the grape, grenache - is a heavy red grape, which found its origins in Spain but is being grown nowadays pretty much everywhere. We get our garnacha from good ol’ Priorat because it's a classic, robust region which can help create some very powerful wines.

This garnacha was made using traditional methods with grapes grown by our partner Roger Grifoll Declara in Priorat, Spain. It was aged for 6 months in French oak barrels. This wine is great to drink now, but can get even better up to 3 years after its harvest, if stored correctly.

Pairs perfectly with the Sunday roast and a table full of people you love. Goes perfectly with foods like chocolate, creamy cheese platter, BBQ - basically everything from the charcoal grill, parmigiana (with eggplant), bell pepper with egg.

Eye: ruby red, medium intensity
Nose: plums, cherries, toast, black pepper
Mouth: cherries, tannins, hazelnuts
Finish: full-bodied, high in tannins, long finish
Identity: new Rioja crianza style wine, but from Priorat
