Unit price per

A robust red with firm tannins that immediately transports you to a groovy jazz club. We’re talking leather, tobacco and sour cherry. Obviously finished with a touch of oak for a long and elegant finish. Made from sangiovese and cabernet franc grapes, we consider this one our Amsterdam version of a Super Tuscan. How about you?

Grapes

50% sangiovese and 50% cabernet franc. Sangiovese grapes from Societá Agricola Maremmalta in sunny Tuscany, Italy, and cabernet franc grapes from Chateau de la Variere in the French Loire.

Tasting Notes

This red wine blend produces a complex and robust wine. Cabernet franc brings aromas of blackcurrant, bell pepper, and spice, while sangiovese adds notes of sour cherry, leather, and tobacco. The oak aging brings subtle vanilla and toast notes to the wine. The tannins are firm and well-structured, with a long and elegant finish.

Tuscany, Italy
It's rare to find someone who hasn't heard of Tuscany's enchanting vineyards. With legendary grapes such as Sangiovese - famously used in Chianti wines - gracing the region, Tuscany boasts some of the most exquisite grape varieties and wines. Montalcino, Montepulciano, and Bolgheri are just a few of the regions that contribute to Tuscany's vinous glory. Fun fact: Bolgheri is where the famed Super Tuscans are brought to life.

Loire, France
Nestled in the heart of France you will find the Loire wine region. Named after and known for France's longest river and consisting of four different regions. This French region is renowned for its sweet chenin blanc wines. Despite their exceptional quality, they remain somewhat undervalued.

We received the sangiovese grapes at our chateau on the 5th of September where they were fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. In contrast, our cabernet franc was harvested on the 21st of September and underwent fermentation and aging in both stainless steel and concrete tanks. The concrete imparts a unique character to the wine, while the oak influence is derived from the juice that remained in barrels. This wine is made with grape juice only, with the exception of a small amount of added sulfites to prevent unwanted microorganisms, and our organic wine yeast. It was clarified using a cellulose filter.

The tannins and acidity of this wine cut easily through the richness of dishes, while the oak aging complements smoky and earthy flavours. This wine pairs well with roasted lamb, grilled steak, or a hearty beef stew. Live a little and try to combine it with aged cheeses or dark chocolate as well.
